(Com)fortified
Cermic comfort objects, broken and artfully mended
In the Comfortified seires, Elise crafted replicas of cherished comfort objects from fragile ceramics. She then deliberately shattered them, a symbolic act echoing the abrupt disruptions experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic. This period, marked by the unraveling of familiar routines, prompted Elise to explore the vulnerability inherent in rigid comfort structures.
Through unconventional processes of repair, the objects are reimagined into new, more ambiguous, forms. These reconstructed objects transcend their original identities, embodying a narrative of resilience and adaptation amidst upheaval.
